This week at Ardsley

We welcomed Alicia, Kaishan and Jessica to Beavers this week and wrote letters to some Joey Beavers in Australia. Kim will send these off to her contact there and fingers crossed we'll get some replies.

Cubs said Hello to Gabriel and Deacon(Kim really likes "Mrs Gabriel" as she did ALL the washing up and made us all a drink AND washed up some of the Scouts mess from Weds night - she can come again -PLEASE!) We also said a fond farewell to Spike and Matty who are moving up to Scouts. They have been a really great pair of Cubs and I'm sure will be a lovely addition to Scouts. (sorry about the 'lovely' lads but I can't think of a more macho word) This week we had feedback from the Synergise camp (sounds like we missed a treat if we didn't go) and had a think about recycling for our Global Challenge badge.

Scouts had a great time doing Ready, Steady Cook and came up with some tasty and innovative ideas from simple ingredients. Leaders were impressed with their ideas and use of knowledge learned in previous cooking sessions we've done.

We will be running sessions for all sections as normal throughout the half term.

cub walk update

Just to let you know that my info was incorrect. The walk will finish at 8 and not 7.15. Sorry.

A Great Weekend at SYnergise

The SYnergise camp at Hesley Wood was a huge success. About 1500 campers from all over South Yorkshire enjoyed the fun and games! Around 100 kids from the Barnsley Fitzwilliam District joined in the Centenary Celebrations, and we all enjoyed camping, cooking, and playing together as a District. Here we all were after a bit of 100-year-old birthday cake!!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who was involved in the organisation of this event… we all saw an awful lot of smiling faces throughout the weekend (kids and adults alike), which made it all worthwhile. They might have been smiling, but they weren’t always clean…

Many games came about… some organised… and some spontaneous… and our cubs really enjoyed “exploring” the whole campsite!

My activity was climbing… even the youngest beavers gave it a try, and some of our cubs and scouts enjoyed taking on the wall!

On Sunday, we all renewed our Beaver, Cub, or Scout Promise, and we heard about what Scouting meant to some different people.

Later, as they washed up the cups, some of the cubs discovered that even doing a “good turn” can be fun… although I’m not sure if they had played Drip Drip Drop earlier!?

Ardsley Cubs did themselves proud again on the 5-aside football pitches… not only were they recently winners of the District Cub Football competition, but now they have also won at County level! Great job guys!

...
..
Unfortunately, our fun had to come to an end on Monday…tired but happy, we went home to get washed!

I’d like to thank all the parents who offered to help transport other kids to and from camp – and thanks to everyone for dropping off and collecting kids on time. That really helped things run smoothly.

Campers were all given a SYnergise Camp badge. This is a green, oval badge. It should be sewn onto the right sleeve just above the cuff, in line with the district and county badges which are at the top of that sleeve.

If you have a Centenary necker, you will also be given a Centenary Camp badge, and a Joining-In The Centenary badge. These are to be sewn onto the back of the Centenary necker. There are four centenary badges to collect, which end up forming a diamond with a gold trim. See the image below for where to sew each one.

If you’ve not yet ordered a centenary necker, and now you think you’d like one, leave £6 in an envelope with your name and “late order” on it, and I’ll get you one in due course.

Well done for choosing to join in… you’ve been a great team… enjoy the rest of the Centenary Celebrations throughout 2007!
