Check in for the Big Adventure at District Camp 2011!

If you have signed up for the big adventure at this years district camp, then you will want to know 2 things;

1. Is it going to rain? - and the forecast says NO RAIN, NO WAY  - but be prepared...just in case :-)

Forecast is good for the Big Adventure
2. When and where do I check in? - Please arrive at Silverwood Camp Site in plenty of time so that you can check in with the Ardsley Scout Leaders from 7pm and NO LATER than 7.30 pm  - We'll set up a check in tent to issue your wristbands which you need to wear all weekend.

Thanks and Happy Camping

District Watersports Event - Sunday 26th June 2011

6 Ardsley Scouts joined many others from across the Barnsley District and took to the water at Pugneys near Wakefield.

As you will remember Sunday was a perfect day weather wise and all of the Scouts had a fantastic time, so much so they did not want to come off the water.

Evening of Fun and Friendship

This week was a special week for Ardsley Beavers when we hosted an evening of fun and friendship with the Barnsley Central Tuesday Beaver Colony. We began by making Friendship Sticks and Bracelets to exchange with our new friends.
We enjoyed a ramble through the woods identifying leaves and played games in the hall. We finished our night off with songs around the camp fire toasting marshmallows.

A big thank you to all the Leaders, Explorers and parents who helped out, making the evening a huge success and thank you to Barnsley Central Beavers for coming over to Ardsley, we had a great time!

For all those Scouts who have paid their money for the Watersports event, you should have taken home an activity information sheet, which needs signing by your parent/carer and bringing with you on Sunday.  All the event details are on it and there is a link below if you did not attend last nights meeting or if you have lost it between the Scout Hut and home.

Sponsored Box Stuff

Thank you to all the Beavers who took part in the Sponsored Box Stuff. They raised a fantastic £261.00 and the money will be sent to Japan to help the thousands of people who suffered earlier this year when the Tsunami hit their island.

This fund raising event was part of the Beavers Friendship Badge and I'm so proud of the Beavers who took part, taking time to help other children who, in some cases lost everything they had.

Well Done Ardsley Beaver Colony.

Scouts Summer Fair 2011 - A great success - Thank You!

The summer fair held on Saturday was a great success.  The weather forecast earlier in the week suggested rainstorms, but we only had 1 ten minute shower.
The bottle hoopla is always a big draw
Before the crowds arrive, the tables are well presented

I know its a cliche - but we all had a smashing time!

Bargain hunters always turn up half an hour before official opening time

Scout necker or balloon for a hat - you decide...

What 3 items would you take if you were stranded on a raft in a church yard?

Enjoying a well earned break - and a tall drink - some of those who helped out on the day
Thank you for supporting this years summer fair a special mention to one scouts parents who set up the plants stall plus those who brought buns and donated items and the balloon lady who made the animals - thanks to you all - and not forgetting the leaders who have to prepare for weeks for this 3 hour event!

If you donated items, your time or your cash by turning up on the day you will want to know that this year we raised a total of £670.15
!!!!Fantastic!!!!

Don't forget we'll be doing this all again next year, what could you do to help?

This Week

Big Adventure Camp - just a quick reminder to adults going on the Big Adventure Camp in July that you need to bring your form and documents in this week so we can get them processed in time.

Scout Water Activities - Scouts interested in taking part in the District Water Activities day at Pugneys on 26th June need to let us know this week, so that we can give the organisers our numbers.

The good news for Explorers is that there are plans being formulated to do a similar activity for Explorers later in the year, which will be geared towards the needs of the young adventurer with a range of possible activities from canoeing, kayaking, sailing, surf boarding etc.. caving, climbing, walking and bike riding  is also being considered.

Watersports Event at Pugneys (Scouts) Sunday 26th June 2011 - All Day

This one is for Scouts

"Where does the engine go?"
There's a district wide watersports event scheduled in for June 26th, it's an all day event offering raft building, raft orienteering (whatever that is?) as well as opportunties to get in a canoe or kayak [You'll have to Google to find out what the difference is :-)] and get out on the water with up to another 50 Scouts at a time.  Don't worry if you can't swim as there will be water safety equipment provided and the park will be covered by suitably qualified instructors.

Cost will be £3.50 per person which will include all equipment and refreshments (and Hot Dogs/Soup for lunch).  Drop off and pick up will be at Pugneys Waterpark, near the Asda Supermarket in Wakefield - details at this link: http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/CultureAndLeisure/ParksAndOpenSpaces/PugneysCountryPark/About.htm

If you want to go > print this form out below  fill in your name, pop that form plus £3.50 into an envelope marked up with your name and WATERSPORTS 26th JUNE on the outside and get it back to us by the next Scout meeting on 15th June 2011.  Permission forms will follow the week after.
